Modern News Journal

Write for us

We welcome clear, original proposals about the processes behind making and publishing news. A strong contribution explains a specific newsroom practice, gives readers a useful distinction or method, and avoids assuming that every newsroom works the same way.

What to propose

Pitch an evergreen subject within assignments, editing, verification, formats or corrections. We are interested in explainers, careful comparisons, concise histories and practical reading frameworks. Keep the subject focused enough to address without relying on invented examples, unsupported claims or access to confidential material.

What to include

Use the Contact page to send a short summary, the main point you would make, the likely reader and any relevant experience or sources you would draw on. Disclose conflicts of interest and any material that is not your own. A proposal is not a guarantee of acceptance or publication.

Editorial expectations

Submissions should be original, accurate, plainly written and free of promotional agendas. We may ask for revisions, clarification or supporting material. Do not send confidential documents or personal information about people who have not agreed to share it.

Our point of view

A published story has a process

News does not appear fully formed. We look at the decisions and routines behind publication so readers can better understand how a story is made.
